RWT Project

After nearly a century of being dewatered, Pelican Rapids of the Wisconsin River is being brought back to life.

Northern Paddle & Trail, and many volunteers are working to restore this exciting whitewater resource by returning eddies, waves, and hydraulics to the river.

We plan to provide opportunities for whitewater play boating, racing, rodeo and instruction at the Rhinelander Whitewater Trail.

In 2001 the Rhinelander Whitewater Trail Project was started.  Using a tracked backhoe, a boaters access was constructed at the put-in, debris and fill has been removed from the riverbed, and large boulders are being used to restore many of the natural river features lost during the historic log drives.

Race gates were added in 2004 and we plan to host our first Pelican Rapids Slalom in 2005.

Work on the Rhinelander Whitewater Trail is planned to continue through 2006.

You can support the RWT Project by adding your generous donation to the success of the project.
